What is Open Studio?
Get your hands dirty and make some pottery!
Our Open Studio sessions are perfect for anyone who wants a dedicated time and space to work on their ceramic projects. Whether you're a seasoned pro or still new to the pottery, our studio provides a welcoming and creative environment for you to explore your ideas.
It is un-supervised time that allows you to work at your own pace on your projects.
Booking is required. A $30 fee secures your spot in the studio for 2 hours, and the options are 9 am to 11 am or 11 am to 1pm on Saturdays.
You will be responsible for cleaning any equipment, tools and surfaces used as per studios guidelines. Clean up time should be included in your 2 hour slot.
What is included in the price?
Included in the price is 2kg of recycled clay (or white clay if recycled is unavailable).
You are welcome to BYO clay as long as it is a stoneware clay (firing temperature 1280°C / Cone9). NO BRT PLEASE.
There are 11 pottery wheels, 1 slab roller and 3 long tables for hand building projects as well as a clay extruder, shelves for storing your pieces in between sessions and a clay & water recycling system to dispose of messy clay and water.
Where can I store my work?
There is plenty of shelf space to store freshly thrown or hand built pieces.
You will be required to wrap and label your pieces with your name and date. Pieces will be kept wrapped for up to 4 weeks from your visit and will be recycled after that period. If you plan on not coming back within 2-4 weeks of your visit, please send an email to hello@kilnfolk.au to discuss options.
Bone-dry pots will not be allowed to be trimmed and will either be recycled or fired as-is (upon firing fee payment). This is to avoid the spread of thin silica particles from the dry clay.
Is the firing price included?
No, firing is paid separately.
Bisque fire is $12/kg and glaze fire is $20/kg. Please check our firing service page for more information.
Upfront payment will be required.
