Kilnfolk Firing Services: Important Information
By submitting your pieces for firing via our drop-off form, you acknowledge and agree to the following guidelines.
Please be aware that Kilnfolk cannot be held liable for any loss, damage, or firing results of submitted items. We maintain the right to decline firing any pieces that pose a risk to our equipment.
Firing Guidelines:
For kiln preservation, we cannot fire damp or wet work. Drying time may affect turnaround.
Clay with significant grog content requires a protective "cookie" during firing.
Glazed items must have adequate clearance to prevent glaze run-off, or be fired with a "cookie." We do not offer glaze clean-up services prior to firing.
Clearly marking your work is strongly advised. Kilnfolk is not responsible for any unclaimed or misplaced items.
Damage and Liability:
Minor kiln shelf damage (including glaze drips or grog-related issues) will incur a $15/kilo of fired work which damaged the shelf as a maintenance fee per damaged shelf.
Major kiln shelf damage will result in a $200 replacement charge.
Damage to the kiln's interior will result in a fee determined by the studio and a specialist technician, based on the damage severity.
Firing Capabilities:
Kilnfolk primarily focuses on Bisque (1000°C) and Stoneware (1280°C) firings.
Please make sure both your clay and glaze are suitable for this firing temperature. If you’re unsure we are happy to assess at the time you drop your work off.
